My scientific mind is the only reason I wasn’t held back in school. Math and science just made sense to me, reading and writing did not. I’ve always enjoyed science’s structure because of the facts, which may change as we learn. As an adult, I love science for a different reason. Science proves the witches were right. There are so many things that we just knew but because people are people they needed the facts to prove them right. It’s why we end up not believing in our intuition. If we listen to our intuition and the bad thing doesn’t happen then there’s no proof it would have ever happened. We doubt ourselves. Science comes along and says here are the facts of why it didn’t happen and it eases that nagging doubt in our mind. We knew the world was round, science proved that. We’ve also known that herbs could heal, science is now proving that. Science is even proving that Energy work heals. I feel that we should weave the scientific and intuitive knowledge together. That’s how alchemy came to do. The “great separation” you speak of comes from the conditioning the need to disconnect us from our knowing. To create doubt and disbelief in our minds because we are easier to manipulate if we live in fear and doubt.
It's interesting that so many of my colleagues (especially the English ones) are bemused / sceptical that a technical / scientific person like me (an engineer) can also hold many spiritual beliefs and listen to my intuition. In Glasgow we are also fond of saying "what's for you won't go by you" (but then many of us are at least 50% Irish / Scottish Highlands and Islands).
Oh gosh! Yes, I definitely resonate with your experience in that respect Tracey. Do you feel like you have to keep one all half of yourself hidden in the workplace just so you don't weird anyone out!?
Not so much now thar I'm self employed, but when a client doesn't respond to the "what does your gut tell you?" approach, I just say that we'll do it the long way (and get the same answer 😂).
This really resonates—thank you for sharing. I don't know, but I hope it might be useful. As the old ways of publishing are crumbling, along with everything else set up on the ideas of "top-down power," other ways are emerging that operate on ideas of circular economy and community-based initiatives (as a win-win for all). I found this women writers' collective that operates as a space for community for writers and also as a publishing house that helps the writer publish their book and keep all the rights, 100% profit, etc. They're soul-led, really lovely, and once I have my book ready, I would consider them myself. It was recommended to me by another writer who published a book with them that's doing very well. Here's a link: https://www.theunboundpress.com/
Love—and keep going, because the stories you are telling are worth it all. Sending light.
Thank you so much Aisté. I had not heard of these publishers, but have followed them now and will definitely consider that as a really great option. Community-based methods are the future!
I came across these words this morning while contemplating and preparing to write about another layer of mysteries of my own relationship with Her. Your insights helped profoundly. Go raibh míle maith agat!
I laughed out loud at the "dysfunctional couple who occupy the same home for financial reasons" line! Brilliant article, it reflects so much of my own internal struggle around how much I'm drawn to ritual and magic and of course Brigid, something my rational mind strongly resists! 🏹
Hahaha, so delighted this piece gave you a chuckle Annette, but ‘dysfunctional couple’ is the best description I can give for inner mind! It was interesting to revisit this piece, two years after I wrote it and reflect on how, yes ‘science me’ and ‘mytical magic me’ are still living in opposite ends of the house ‘for financial reasons’ but I think they are meeting for chats in the kitchen more often and finding some common ground. I think our rational minds love a bit of ritual and magic (they just think they have to protest!)
Yes, I, too, find that the two meet more and more often for chats. I reread yesterday a post called Brigid Beyond Belief by Sean Pádraig O'Donoghue in which he questions the binaries we're conditioned into, and the reframe needed to go beyond them.

So delighted they found there way to you and sparked something. Thank you so much for letting me know :)
